Licensed Nurse Practitioner
My name is Maribel Martinez, and I am a Family Nurse Practitioner. I was born and raised in Edinburg, TX where I attained a Bachelor’s then Master’s degree of Science in Nursing at the University of Texas Pan American (now called the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley). I have worked in the medical field for over twenty years and have been practicing as a Family Nurse Practitioner since the year 2011. I moved from south Texas, an area known for high obesity rates, to the Austin area, one of the fittest cities I know, in late 2012.
The impact obesity has had on my family, friends and the majority of my patients has generated a strong desire in me to assist clients in their journey to a healthier way of life. In the past decade, I have seen amazing transformations when clients take better control of their health through the help of a medically supervised weight loss program.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website (2018), “Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death.” I have witnessed many diabetic patients improve their conditions to the point where their primary care givers are able to discontinue some of their medications and patients who suffer with issues such as depression improve their quality of life through the assistance of a weight loss program.
I hope to be an inspiration to patients, through my own weight loss experience, as we transform into the best versions of ourselves: individually, as a family and as a community.
